Creation and use of new materials for quilting and other textile projects uses natural resources and causes waste, negatively impacting our environment. The cost of purchasing new materials for quilting projects continues to increase. We all know it makes no financial sense to make a quilt from new material, but we love making things with fabric.
The mission of madefromscrapcbus.org is to both reduce the cost of quilting and reduce its impact on the environment by:
- Encouraging the use of recycled materials to make quilts and other textile projects.
- Encouraging the reduction of the use of new materials for quilts and other textile projects.
We love fabric, but we are taking on the challenge to create beautiful, useful items from fabric using the least amount of resources that we can, saving money at the same time.
- Reuse the materials already owned.
- Donate unwanted materials to friends or thrift stores.
- Organize or participate in fabric swaps.
- Purchase used materials from thrift stores.
- Reduce the new materials purchased.
- Buy the fabric only when absolutely necessary.
- Reject the mythology of “the stash”.
