Voltaire is known for saying, the “Perfect is the enemy of good.” Do what you can and what makes sense in your life.

Below are some suggestions to consider.

Refuse
Refuse to start the cycle of waste.
- Don’t take the free t-shirt that you will wear once (or never), or the free plastic squishy toy that will go directly into the trash when you get home. Leave them on the table.
- Don’t hand out free single-use items. Give a small piece of candy or a sticker instead.
Reduce
Reduce the plastic in your life.
- Use reusable shopping bags
- Use shampoo and conditioner bars instead of bottles.

Reuse
Accept the challenge to creatively reuse!
- Upcycle old clothing into quilts, placemats, potholders. (shirts, jeans, pants, curtains, sheets, blankets)
- Make scrappy quilts using your old fabric scraps. Challenge your imagination to create something truly original!
Recycle
Enrich our growing community.
- Make reusable shopping bags from scraps, e.g. old curtains and old jeans.
- Return old single use batteries to be recycled.
- Use the food containers that you couldn’t avoid receiving to store food instead of single-use plastic bags.
Dispose Properly
Work with your community.
- Dispose of lawn waste and hazardous waste properly.
- Do NOT put your curbside recycling into large plastic bags!
- Leave your leaves on the ground! Avoid raking them up if you can.
Invest & Save
Make your purchases count.
- When you can, buy products that will last.
- Avoid “fast fashion”.
- Repair products when possible. Fix that old dryer from the 1990’s rather than buying a new one.
